Corinthian Vintage Race club has a number of races each year, several in College Station at the Texas World Speedway – check permanent link at right for more info and schedule. Great cars, great people, exciting races. I took these pictures Saturday.
Met Suzanne Gallagher O’Neal who graciously told me a bit about this team’s beautiful race cars. Also chatted with the team’s mechanics and one of their drivers. The yellow 1971 Lola #29 race car simply ran away from the field. No. 16 is very significant, it’s the 1969 prototype for a Brabham race car. The red race car is a 1979 Crossle from Ireland for the Formula Ford class, and the green and yellow car is a classic 1961 Lotus Super 7.
Check out San Antonio’s Alamo Power Sports for Triumph and BMW motorcycles, service and more. Support these very serious racers and very friendly people.
This is a very significant car, Lotus’ first rear engined car, with “wobbly wheels” designed to save weight, as Lotus founder Colin Chapman preached, to “Simplify, then add lightness“. A Lotus 18 won Lotus’ first Formula One victory in 1960. Legendary drivers Stirling Moss and Innes Ireland found success in a Lotus 18. This 1960 Lotus 18 race car is owned and raced by Bruce Revennaugh. I had a nice chat with Ms. Revennaugh who was racing a beautiful Forumla Vee race car.
