The Corinthian Vintage Races are really fun. Not too many people come so audience members can mingle with the mechanics and car owners. They are remarkably eager to talk about their vintage race cars. Don’t miss the 400+ vintage race cars coming the last week of October at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas. See link at right.
The stunning car, owned by Jeff Mosing, was made in S. Africa. The original GT40 is one of the great race cars of all time. Beside killer looks, it was the culmination of the Ford Motor Company’s monumental efforts including help from Caroll Shelby to topple Ferrari, which they did finally in 1966. Jeff is a successful race car driver, and he owns a number of great cars. Visit Jeff’s beautiful showroom. See his link at the right of each page of this blog under “ATX Motor Links”.
This very lightweight, highly styled race car was made in San Diego in the early 60s, powered by a Fiat Abarth 850 cc engine. Here are tech specs, history and more pics of this particular car. Don’t miss the Corinthian Vintage Car Races in College Station the first weekend in September. The cars are fantastic, and there are no crowds, parking is a cinch, and you can roam the pits.
Watched, and listened, to this impressive race car at the recent Corinthian vintage races in College Station. This car was raced unsuccessfully by the very famous Dan Gurney (in the last race it was piloted by the also famous Swede Savage), dropping out of every race in 1967 due to engine and transmission failures. Had a great V8 sound, and one of the more significant race cars at this event. Here are more details and pictures of its 1967 race season. Internet says this car had the Ford Weslake 6200 cc V8 (378 cu. in.) created for Gurney by the British company Weslake. This car originally might have had the later Mk III version of the 305 cu. in. Ford V8, most famously used to win Le Mans in the seminal Ford GT40s in 1967 and 1968. Not too sure of these facts. This car may not have the original engine but another small block Ford. Owned and raced by Rob Rowley.
