1946 Ford Custom 4×4 Truck in NW Austin

Written by Ken Altes

Don’t know anything about this truck although I imagine it rides on a modern truck chassis. I particularly like it because I learned to drive in a 1946 Ford flatbed in Pittsburg, Texas, on the red, sandy back roads, although that one was clapped out, wobbling wildly at 37 mph. Took this pic in the Motoreum parking lot on Hwy 620 near Anderson Mill Rd.1946 Ford truck 4x4 detail front1946 Ford truck 4x4 in Austin TX1946 Ford truck 4x4 detail1946 Ford truck 4x4 detail rear

1956 Ford Customline Tudor Sedan in the Brush

Written by Ken Altes

Found this two-tone 1956 Ford Customline Tudor Sedan behind, way behind, a BMW mechanic’s garage in NW Austin. As a new car, it was advertised touting its “big jet-tube tail lights, big new wrap-around parking lights, extra-large windshield and King Size double-sealed brakes.” — All hyphenated!

Nixon’s AMC Gremlin in North Austin

Written by Ken Altes

Bob Nixon, that is, designed the AMC Gremlin by lopping off the rear of an existing model.  Apparently a good, solid economy car with a large range of engines, from a two liter Audi four to a five liter V8. Approximately the same length as a VW Beetle, road tests of the time said it handled well and was quick. Still, not a good decade for Nixons.
