1932 Ford Victoria Hot Rod in E. ATX

Written by Ken Altes

This 1932 Ford Victoria hot rod was in central E. Austin, and sports, for you purists, a big block Ford V-8.  Valve covers say Ford Racing, has a tall intake manifold with two 4-barrel carburetors, and some nice, and short, headers.  Can anyone identify the engine?

1964 Mercury Comet A/FX Caliente at Bastrop Car Show

Written by Ken Altes

1964 Mercury Comet in Bastrop TX

Intriguing 1964 Mercury Comet A/FX Caliente factory drag class car with the 427 cu.in./425 hp V-8 — At least, that’s my best guess.

The FX stood for Factory Experimental, a class which allowed manufacturers to fit the largest engine available and alter the body of a production car. The letter A refers to the engine size; there were also B/FX and C/FX classes.

The 1928 Dodge Brothers Standard Six Sedan is powered by a 248.9 cu. in. six-cylinder engine making 68 hp, turning a 3-speed gearbox, propelling a full metal body.
I photographed it in the center of Austin, Texas, on Lady Bird Lake.
