Really, is there a prettier car? About a half million Karmann Ghias were built between 1955 and 1974, hand-built bodies butt-welded, hand-shaped and smoothed with English pewter on a dumb VW chassis with its standard air-cooled boxer engine. This one is either a 1970 or 1971.
Timeless shape. These cars finally appreciating!
When I was 14, I swapped for the afternoon my Honda S90 for a black 50s Karmann Ghia, owned by my sister’s boyfriend, and drove it around N. Dallas, hoping to avoid the police. When it needed gas, I couldn’t find the gas tank filler — the gas station attendant knew it was under the front hood. I guess it was clear to him that I should not have been out in that, or any other, car that afternoon.
