Iconic car, iconic DOHC straight six. Don’t miss this year’s vintage races at Circuit of the Americas. I could not find it on their homepage but get details here. See more than 600 cars racing in 12 classes. Total access to the pits. Relatively low attendance ensures quality time with the cars and crews. My F1 experience at this track was an ordeal but this event is a piece of cake, including affordable parking at the circuit — no %$#@% buses.
First available in 1957, the Giulietta Sprint Speciale, styled by Bertone, has a low drag coefficient of just 0.28 — better than a new Corvette. These are true racing cars designed to compete against the dominant Porsche 356. More pictures here from seller. This particular car was fully restored by Custom Classics in California, and has its original, numbers matching engine. Only 1,366 Giulietta Sprint Speciales were built and not many are still around. See link at right for Motoreum in NW Austin.
An earlier post featured this car at last fall’s car auction at the Convention Center. Discovered in S. America, this Rolland-Pilain vintage race car has a price of almost $200k. I took these newer pictures at Motoreum’s showroom on Hwy 620. Link at right.
Lovely 1934 Chevrolet vintage race car powered by the advanced OHV straight six that Chevy used from 1929 into the 70s. Don’t miss this year’s vintage races at Circuit of the Americas, October 10-12. More than 600 vintage race cars competing in 12 classes. Exceptional access to all the race cars makes this the best event of the year.
