1980s J60 Toyota Land Cruiser in Oak Hill

Written by Ken Altes

Toyota got its start making 4x4s by reverse engineering a Jeep Bantam MK II captured in the Philippines in 1941, resulting in the AK10.  The Toyota J60 Land Cruiser is famously durable and capable, perhaps my favorite Toyota.J60 Toyota Land Cruiser in Austin TexasJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser

Reader Submission: 1961 Willys Jeep FJ-3 Fleetvan at DIY Shop in N. Austin

Written by Ken Altes

Mark sent these interesting pics. I posted this same van behind a business in East Austin about two years ago. Powered by the F-134 Hurricane engine, giving about 75 hp, and also used in a bunch of Jeep models. Right hand drive for mail delivery. Specs for van here.

The “Loyal Austin DIY Shop” is near IH-35 and TX-45. A wide range of interesting car owners take advantage of the lifts and tools there to repair and modify their rides. One great service is the mobile dyno every 3rd Saturday afternoon, $65 for two “pulls.”  Thanks, Mark.1961 Willys jeep van at DIYatx.com in Austin TX 1961 Willys jeep van at DIYatx.com side view     FleetvanDJ 1961 Willys jeep van at DIYatx.com sign DIYatx.comJeep Hurricane EngineJeep FJ-3 Fleetvan AD

Roland’s 1977 International Scout North of UT

Written by Ken Altes

Roland caught me taking these pics, asked me if I liked the truck. Justifiably proud of his new machine, and just back from a repainting, he said it’s powered by a 345 cu. in. V8.  Thanks, Roland. 1977 International Scout in Austin TX1977 International Scout in Austin Texas
