Mercedes Unimog 404 in S. Austin

Overgrown Tonka toy, these fast tractors have a short 110 in wheelbase, and weigh about 6,400 lb. Incredibly, this model can climb a 70% grade and descend a 90% grade. Reminds me of a recurring nightmare.

Jeep Commando at Colvin Automotive in N. Austin

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to visit Colvin Automotive although several readers recommended it. The range and quality of the cars and trucks I found there recently was impressive. Featured here is a 1972 or 1973 Jeep Commando. They are usually, in my opinion, ulgly – I really love the earlier Jeepsters with the classic Jeep grille – but this one has the chrome grille painted over, and it looks great. It’s V8 emblem indicates the AMC 304 V8— making 150 hp.
