Sold last year at Austin’s Mecum auction for $32,000, it’s had a rotisserie restoration with a small block crate engine, auto transmission and custom Foose wheels. Dave’s Perfection Automotive is a venerable classic and custom car garage on S. 1st St., now owned by Steve Wertheimer, owner of the Continental Club on S. No doubt, South Congress Ave is the center of Austin’s car culture and where I find so many wonderful cars. This 1959 Chevy Impala has dual exhaust pipes so, if original, it has either the 283 cu. in. V8, or the 348 cu. in. V8 (related to the 409, made famous by the Beach Boys’ song ‘409′, and the first gen 427).
