These very durable 4WD SUVs use a 4 liter straight six, built all through the 80s.
Cadillac Allantes were made from 1986 to 1993. Bodies made in Italy by Pininfarina were shipped in Boeing 747s, 56 at a time, to Detroit for final assembly. Uses a small Caddy V8 ranging from 250 to 281 cu. in., pulling the car with FWD.
Great handling cars, Porsche’s front engined 944s were made from 1982 to 1991. Relatively large four cylinder engines ranging from 2.5 to 3 liters would be rough running if not for innovative double counter-rotating balance shafts running at twice the engine speed.
The Mondial was available from 1980 1993. This car has a 3.2 liter V8 with four valves per cylinder, and is a 2+2. Claims wikipedia: “The Cabriolet has the added distinction of being the only four-seat, mid-rear engine, convertible automobile ever manufactured in regular production.” Offered by Motoreum, link at right.
