Older cars are banned from the city center during work days but on the weekend they invade the city. I was not really prepared and was unable to be in position to photograph most of the interesting cars that zoomed by me. It was kind of comical, as I would give up waiting for one to appear, then one would sneak by. It happened a bunch of times but I was, at least, able to get a long shot of this dream car. Ferrari made 800 of these sleek, v12 powered Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 (Grand Tourismo) cars between 1968 and 1971. (Note the line of cannon behind the car, at the front of the Hôtel des Invalides.)
What’s that car tightly sandwiched between the 1969 Mercury Montego and pickup in a field of rusting cars near Manor? I think it’s possibly a rare 1934-36 DeSoto Airflow. Along with the Chrysler Airflow, these were incredibly advanced cars featuring significant safety and handling characteristics plus aerodynamic bodies. The cars were technical successes but market failures. To combat public questions about the safety of the new unibody construction, Chrysler demonstrated its strength with a number of stunts, including running one off a cliff, video below.
