This remarkable 1933 Brough Superior is being prepared for a cross-country trek. Built from 1924 into the 1930s, it was guaranteed to reach 80 mph (the SS100 was guaranteed to reach 100). Called “the Rolls Royce of motorcycles”, fabulously expensive and meticulously built to the highest standard, customized for each customer making them the ultimate motorcycle of its time. Famously, T.E. Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia, died riding his eighth Brough. Another was jointly owned by Steve McQueen and his buddy, Von Dutch. Learn more here. And here. Here are better pics from Revival Cycles.
Wiki says: “When the engine was introduced in 1932, it was a market first in several respects: in cars that were affordable to the emerging mass market consumer, it was the first 8-cylinder, the first V8, and the first V engine to become widely available in automobiles”. Dave’s is owned by Steve Wertheimer, co-creator of Austin’s great rat rod car show, the Lonestar Round Up, coming April 4. Don’t miss it.
