Ran across this sophisticated car on S. Congress Ave. Owner moved from Dallas, is a motorcycle and custom car fabricator. I think this is one of the Martin brothers whose shop outside Johnson City, Texas. Since, I have gotten a a bunch of cool pictures from their hot rod garage, Martin Bros. Customs.
Sadly, only five original Grand Sports were built in 1962 to compete against AC Cobras before GM brass pulled the plug when they learned of Zora Arkus Duntov’s secret program known as The Lightweight. These cars were 800 – 1350 lbs lighter than stock, several powered by a 377 cu. in. aluminum small block engine with four cross-ram Weber carbs, turning out 485-550 hp. All original Grand Sports survive, valued at about $5 million. This is an awesome recreation, and very compelling.
Caught this 1967 Thunderbird Coupe on Royal Lane. In great shape, it was the first year of the fifth generation Thunderbird, this model running to 1971. Powered by a 390 cu.in. FE (Ford-Edsel engine) from 1958.
