American LaFrance Type 700 Fire Engine in S. Austin

Written by Ken Altes

This fire truck has spent a lot of time at this garage at S. 1st and Live Oak. The versatile mechanics there are working to get the V-12 running. American LaFrance was an old American fire apparatus manufacturing company that folded last year. This one, marked “Foamite”, was built in Canada in the 1950s but it is a party truck — see the beer taps at the left side just forward of the back wheels.
