One of my favorite cars. Love the sharp-edged styling and…
That was my car. I got it when I was 19. I drove it for 37 years. I lived in Austin for one year, but not in 2016 when this was posted. Anyway, some jerk ran a red light and hit me head on last June and totalled the car. I will never ever get over it. I’d just painted it very professionally for a 55th birthday gift to myself. It was perfect. A true joy.
Can you believe it’s possible to total a car like this? It is. The frame just shattered, in three different places. The only way to repair it would have been to rebuild the car on to a new frame. I had significant insurance, but not enough to replace the car. I was severely injured, so was my wife, with neck and back injuries that bother me still over a year later.
I’d give anything if this hadn’t happened. I still haven’t gotten over the loss of my wonderful old Catalina.
