Note the push-buttons for the transmission are on the hub of the steering wheel. Dig the crazy speedometer. Contact info at right for Dave’s, a venerable Austin collector car and hot rod garage on S. 1st St.

Like any totally electric shifter mechanism (no cable or linkage) from Hudson’s “Electric Hand” introduced in ’35 and the Cord front drive four speed of ’36, no company overcame the problem of moisture in the contacts including Edsel in this ’58. Many Edsels were seen in early used car days with floor shift linkage installed so they could be driven consistently. Today in hobby use we do what we have to do.

Wayne, you are exactly right about this car: it has a floor shifter visible in a picture I did not post. Thanks again for your insights.
