On My Travels: Ferrari 412 Near Hitler’s Bunker in Berlin

Written by Ken Altes

Here is another more practical, four seat Ferrari with a front-mounted V12. I discovered this Ferrari 412 on a flatbed approximately above Hitler’s last stand in his underground bunker in Berlin, and a block or two inside the old Berlin Wall. Almost 3000 of this series was built from 1975 to 1989. I like these handsome cars a lot and found a similar one for sale a while back on N. Lamar in Austin.Ferrari 412 in Berlin Germany on truck Ferrari 412 in Berlin Germany

Family Car: Ferrari FF at Petrol Lounge in N. Austin

Written by Ken Altes

Another extraordinary car stored/coddled at Austin’s own Petrol Lounge. I am sometimes asked which is my favorite car: This is the car I would most want for everyday use.

To keep your family safe and happy, Ferrari kindly created the Ferrari FF in 2011:

  • four wheel drive (first for Ferrari)
  • folding rear seats give 28 cu. ft. of storage space
  • 6.3 liter V-12 turns out 651 hp @ 8000 rpm
  • 7-speed dual-clutch semi-automatic paddle shift transmission
  • 117.7 inch wheelbase, 4150 lbs.
  • top speed (in case of emergency): 208 mph

Ferrari 250 LM at Circuit of the Americas

Written by Ken Altes

I was not able to find out which specific car this one is out of 32 total built as a race/street car for private race teams. Hugely valuable, it was the first mid-engined production Ferrari, and the last Ferrari achieve an overall win at Le Mans, in 1965. One of these sold for more than $14 million two years ago. Powered by a 3.3 liter V12. The most desirable ’60s Ferrari?

Ferrari F40 at the Petrol Lounge in N. Austin

Written by Ken Altes

Awesome. It’s always a good day when you run across what many consider the greatest supercar of all time. The Ferrari F40 was the first road legal production car capable of 200 mph, via 478 hp from a twin turbo V8, weighing only about 2400 lbs. Minor mods on one example reached 226 mph at the the 2006 Bonneville Speed Week. Found it lurking at the Petrol Lounge in N. Austin.
